What Beer and Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) means to Japanese/ One of the best combinations Ever

Beer and Yakiniku make your day just perfect

Living and growing up in Japanese society for 28 years, my favorite food gradually has changed due to the changing of my life stages (french toast is a stable favorite food for me throughout life though). I don’t boost or want to be biased though, Japan is also famous for its unique diverse food culture. Japan is often criticized as a nation of peer pressure or lack of diversity. However, in terms of food or culture of cuisine, Japan is a nation of the great diversity of food culture, I think. Of course, you cannot have the real rural traditional Italian pasta in Tokyo, but it may have great quality for it, and it is really easy for the nation to access such high-quality cuisines at a cheaper price.

Every nation has a great food combination in its unique culture. At this time, I’d like to introduce you to one of the greatest food combinations (actually food and drink) in Japan. It’s sometimes described as a metaphor for a great combination. It is, Beer and Yakiniku. Beer is beer (My favorite, and the most well-known beer brand in Japan is Asahi’s SUPER DRY ). Yakiniku is a Japanese for BBQ, but Yakiniku can be enjoyed at a Yakiniku Restaurant with a small table and a kind of portable cooking stove.

Please imagine a day. It’s a very rough day. The work you dealt with the day was very heavy and your boss is just an asshole. You somehow struggle to survive and try to finish the day, and you did it. Then, looking at the clock, it shows 7 o’clock pm. You are very hungry. Your best colleagues suddenly hit upon a magical idea and tell the other ones “It was a rough day. Why don’t we go and celebrate our great work with beer and yakiniku, eh?” Then, the word can be imagined with a clear picture and the hint of the smell, and you wish to drink the cold beer with it as much as you can. Yakiniku and beer are very addictive. Meanwhile, you suddenly found that every familiar colleagues are surrounding at a table, and waiting for the coming of beer and yakiniku. Then, you do cheers and the happiest moment in your day would arrive.

This is what we Japanese reminds when we heard the word yakiniku and beer. Most of us cannot stop drooling a lot with these words. I had never thought that there would be a great combination more than BigMac and Coke when I was a teenager. Being an adult sometimes works.

Thank you very much for reading, and have a great day.

My Ideal Daily Routine that Makes My Condition Really Good

My birthday is getting closer day by day. December 23rd is my birthday and I’ll be 29 years old this year. Facing the huge wall of the 30s, I’ve been feeling something a bit of matureness or sophistication about my life. My mentor once told me when I asked him “When will I finally be able to find my calling?”, he (a university professor) told me like “looking my students graduated from my university, they seem to have found such things by 30 years old”. Then, “the 30 years old” became a kind of “curse word” to me. Anyway, that’s another story.

Today, I’d like to list up my ideal daily routine which I have invented and revised and I think it’s the latest and updated routine, which makes my day almost perfect if I achieve those. I somehow end-up with this routine to make myself healthy, I would keep brushing up my lists.

1. Toilet Cleaning
After getting ready to go out, I’m cleaning the toilet. Those who are really rich often tells advice like this, but you have no idea why you should do this for getting rich. However, your feeling must be refreshed and cleaned like your toilet. So, I have no reason, but I would really recommend you this habit.

2. Updating blog
Keep doing every day makes you grow. Practice makes perfect. As an English teacher, I’d like to use English as a tool to express my feeling, and when I look back at how many articles have I posted, I can get confident.

3. Study English
If I were a professional baseball player, I need to practice every day. If I were a craftsman, I would research everything about my job. So, what about me? What is the duty of being an English teacher? You need to prepare really seriously about your classes, and brush up on your English ability. But, it is also true that most teachers in Japan are very busy unfairly. It’s so easy that you blame the system or government, and I also think it’s important. However, that would never be an excuse not to study or prepare for classes with this negative feeling. Therefore, I’d like to do my best for brushing up on myself in my career.

4. Cooking
Cooking can be a therapy for your soul. There is a famous book called “Chicken soup for the soul”, but to me, cooking or eating well directly means good for your soul and body. In Japan, the verb Eat is described as 食べる, and this Chinese character 食 consists of 人(human), 良(good). In short, Eating makes you good. What a wonderful word. If you eat well, your life must be well.

5. Swing Practice of Kendo
My hobby is Kendo (Japanese traditional martial arts), and I want to be stronger. The beginning of my training was slightly late (from 26 years old) though, I will never excuse this. I should just keep practicing using YouTube live channel or some motivation arousal tips.

6. Eat a lot of vegetables
People my age tend to eat too much meat, intake oil, and drink too much. All I need is to eat more vegetables and work out more frequently.

7. Taking Online English Lesson
I’m taking an online English lesson on Rare Job. This is just fun for me. You don’t use English that much (hardly ever for the most Japanese, ironically), so this online service provides me a lot of chances to speak English. Moreover, you can sometimes talk about your private issues with tutors, so it’s also a kind of counseling too.

Hope you have a great routine and my list can inspire your daily habits.

My Simple Answer to Years-Long Bothering Question

Today, what I’d like to do is to write about a complicated question and my simple answer for which I’ve recently felt finding out. The question is what I’ve been thinking from my high schooler’s days. The days when I didn’t want to go to school because there seemed no specific reasons to go to school. Simply, boring, and it seemed to me that the school is one of the worst places ever to realize what is my dream or what do I want to be for my vast future.

The question was actually simple. “Who am I?”. Seriously, that’s the exact question from my 16 years old. Maybe it should be translated as “What do I want to do through my entire life”, or “What kind of person do I want to become”. Then, from the age to this day, the question became a kind of my underlying illness. This would not be praised or awarded though, I can say that I’ve been thinking about this question every day for almost 24 hours and 365 days. I often use exaggeration but not on this one. Seriously, it was like an illness, and if there were a kind of occupation that evaluates how long you can think about one damn boring question, I could be a professional.

The moment when I realize a simple answer was not sure though, I recently feel like this. The reason why I’ve been caring and minding about my unclear future so far so much is a kind of proof that I am a versatile person anyway. Please don’t misunderstand that I want to be an asshole. What I really want to say is the opposite.

There is a friend of mine who was a college mate. End of our college days, he had got a job offer from a company, and he got the job. However, within 3 months since he started the work, he suddenly resigned from the job because of not-interesting job content or stressful human relationship in his office. He then called and talked about what he had done over the phone, and my reaction was a bit surprising to him, I said, “I envy you. “

If I can love something or hate something so much, I can be something. That is what I had thought. However, I finally realize that I don’t have specific niche things that obsess me. And I think I should accept this personality at the age of 28. On the contrary, everything that I do now is what I should do in my life because I can do anything with the same passion.

For these 28 years, I’ve been pursuing to find an “ideal job”, which is the best job for me. But, now I notice that there is no such ideal job especially to me, and maybe what I’m doing now is what I should do in my life. By thinking this way, my mind became so clear that I want to challenge many things with a modest heart.

The reason is sometimes not in mental

Do you often feel down? Or, always worry about tiny or big problem? Yesterday, I encountered a video clip on youtube, and the personality mentioned how to deal with our daily problems or worries. His solution was very unexpected one.

“Where is your heart (mind)?” Anyone have been thought about the question once in a life. Somebody would think it’s in our brain, and others would say it’s literarily in our heart or stomach. Now, I would like to say it’s the same thing to our body. We feel like we are thinking in our brain and our emotion is controlled by mainly brain. However, the reason why you get irritated easily today is just because your lack of iron, or skipping breakfast in the morning.

What the personality wanted to suggest is, we should firstly eat something decently before wondering our issues or worrying something. This is simply because we can’t worry correctly in a hunger or cold situation. We can’t think properly in such poor conditions. Therefore, we need to eat and make ourself warm first. That was the lesson the video wanted to say to us.

What do you think the advice? I personally really agreed with the idea. We sometimes misunderstand our mental health. The outside is getting colder, and maybe you would easily prone to get into trouble more often than before. We should count not only our mental health but also our body condition from now. Then, we can take care of ourselves more from now.

When you feel stressed out

Ah… we maybe all have some characters who we don’t like or difficult to be friend with. The day when you witnessed very stressful moments with him or her, your day suddenly seems rainy day even though the outside is pretty sunny. I believe that there are people who we can’t get along. I’m not talking about discrimination. However, you know. There is a comedian’s quote. “Everyone has somebody you don’t like or feel irritated when you saw them, if you don’t have such people, YOU are the person.”

Anyhow, one of a character who I’m not enough to be confident to get along with is a person who talk too much (90% meaningless), talk too long, talk to me too often, and the story is re-run kind of story or something really boring one. I, literally, can’t bear with hearing boring stories, and sometimes I even feel total waste of time. Then, I feel very mixed feeling. If I say “Sorry but it’s enough now”, I feel like I lost against something. Hmm… am I rather an asshole pretender?

Like any people wish, I want to spend life with full of positive mind, and friends or colleagues. But, it’s just an ideal thought. There are no such utopia in this world. But at least, I want to be more generous guy who can be smile in any stressful situations with natural sense.

Fall/Autumn is the best season for…

There is a popular Japanese idiomatic expression “◯◯の秋(◯◯’s Fall/Autumn)”. What it means is “Fall is the best season for 〇〇”, and the famous expressions are like, “食欲の秋(Fall is the best season for appetite because it’s the season for harvest)”, “スポーツの秋(for sports because the temperature is suitable and the ratio of sunny days are relatively higher than any other seasons in Japan.)” or “読書の秋(for reading books because the sun set around 5pm compared to the summer season of 7pm)”. After all, Fall in Japan is maybe the best season for everything in Japan.

What would you think of your “◯◯’s Fall”? In my opinion, it is the best season for breathing. Air, basically, doesn’t have “the season” like any other vegetables or fruits. But, I personally think it definitely has the season. Without any doubts, I believe that It’s fall that we can enjoy the most delicious air. Living in a countryside of Hokkaido, I somehow feel a kind of zenith of deliciousness of the pure, aesthetic, sophisticated cold air. We can just describe it as a clean cold air in country side, but I would rather feel something else that can make me feel so happy.

You can feel such air when you get out the entrance, or a night you opened a window and sip a hot milk. You realize the air is somehow connected to the earth, and realize how pure the air can be. Winter air is much strict, and too cold to enjoy to me. But, I would like to share this feeling with you someday. We are not eating something, but eating air too. This is said by Haruki Murakami. That would be one of the reason why you feel something’s wrong when you eat Italian pasta in Japanese restaurant and don’t take it as the same taste you had in Italy. Air is such an important factor in our lives, and why don’t we enjoy our air more from now?

Somebody can push you

Time flies so fast. I’m feeling like my basic personality hasn’t been changed from high school days. Actually that doesn’t mean much to me. I mean, I feel like I’ve been always in trouble since my high school days. The core problem I’ve been thinking from my high school days was “Who The Hell Am I?” What is my future I should pursue or what would be the most suitable job to me. I don’t know what this disease is called. I’ve been looking for myself. What is my passion anyway, or like that.

To focus and try to solve the problem, actually it is not a good idea try to be alone in my case. One of the biggest reason why I broke up with my ex girlfriend was because she frequently talk about the marriage plan after being in a relation after 1 year and a half month. It is really usual thing to think about such thing for 27 or 28. But, something has not made sense in my mind, and I asked her to end the relationship. The excuse at that time for her was “because I have things to do before getting married”.

Now, more than a year has been passed since the breaking up. And then I hit upon an idea. The excuse was bullshit. Nothing I could achieve, and I couldn’t do anything great with all my alone time. Rather tried to hang out with friends and became more lazy guy, who don’t care future that much. Without “push”, I can’t do anything, then I realized.

And now, my life situation has been changed. My serious marriage plan is suddenly emerging before me. There is a woman who “push” me to think of and face my future seriously. Thanks to her, now I can feel very motivated and positive against the future. Now I’m feeling like I should drive it like you stole it.

Tomorrow

Since the emergency declaration has been just canceled the day before yesterday, the most of Japanese seems to feel a bit of freedom of Friday. Thanks to this pain relief, people can enjoy drink alcohol until not 8 pm but later than that time. That makes us to go grab a drink more often. See? We are not dogs anymore and we can live freely again.

One of my colleague asked me to go get drink, and we’ve just gone to a restaurant bar place for the first time in a month. We were almost forgetting how to drink and talk in such kind of place though, gradually we could make sense of how to behave in such place, and we could all share good drunk feeling. The beauty of alcohol can be described as this old saying: The truth is in the wine. Often, it is this kind of occasion that we can finally share the true feelings or stupidity.

Now, I came back to my house and typing this blog, and thinking about tomorrow’s schedule. Tomorrow, I’d like to go to a cinema and see the latest 007 movie “No Time To Die”, and want to write a fiction. I’ve been wondering when to write almost everyday, so tomorrow, I will definitely write my stuff. There are a lot of thing to do, really. Thanks to a convivial drinking party, now, tomorrow can be seen as clear as white wine to me.

You don’t know when you die

Sorry for this shocking title, but nobody would understand this meaning more than today’s us. The most important lesson leant from this pandemic was there were literally no proof that we can live tomorrow like yesterday. In short, we finally realize that we have no idea of when we will be dead or the world ends. I’m not supposed to make you scary but rather I want to see the bright side of this lesson today.

People often say and be told that you should do what you want to do. But, how many people can live like this? For instance, you want to have a piano in your tiny room, but you can’t buy it right now because you have not enough money to buy, and there is not enough room to put the piano. However, the COVID19 told us that even there are such a hard situation, you should buy and put it in your tiny room because you can be dead tomorrow. It sounds a bit extreme argument though, I recently really think like this way. Let’s do things that you’ve wanted to do right now! Then, you can lose your “perfect timing” forever. So, why don’t you start writing your fiction, or tell somebody love you, and somehow buy a cheap piano? There is always a way after all.

Personally, I think I need to work harder, and want to write a great novel, and practice the piano, and want to read tons of interesting books, and want to hang out with my precious friends, and want to say I love you from the bottom of my heart. Now I finally found that I have so so many thing to do in my life, in this short moments. I don’t want to spoil my precious time but actually if I try to tackle with all these things at once, I could easily get down. Therefore, the wisest way which seemed to me so now, is just keep trying everyday. It’s like accumulating a sheet of paper one by one everyday. But hopefully, someday I can see a beautiful scene standing on the papers.

Editorial: Everyone forced to dream with “priceless” moments/ What “Demon Slayer: Infinity Train” tries to describe in today’s society

Speaking of “Damon slayer”, which became a huge hit in last year in Japan due to the mega hit of its movie title, the movie has just aired on TV yesterday and people went crazy watching the movie as No.1 grossing movie ever in Japan. Here is an article of what I wrote when I watched the movie for the first time.

Anyhow, it became such a huge hit in Today’s Japanese society, and that means there must be huge attractive, unconscious problem arousal factors in the movie. Masterpiece can describe our hidden unconscious desire or problems, and through watching fiction, we can sometimes see the truth. That is the beauty of watching or reading fictional story. When you see a movie and find something strange, that noticing would be a key for opening the door to a truth hidden in the story.

The curious thing with watching the movie was a kind of main demon character “Genmu”. He can make people dream with his magic, and let people dream really sweet dream, and during they are dreaming, Genmu can eat people. In this movie, he use some kids to cooperate with his strategy and try to eat as many people in the train as possible.

Then, this story reminds me of a thought. I sometime feel I’m forced to dream. In this time, dream means feel satisfied or like that. In today’s society, people can easily satisfied with free contents, like youtube, google, facebook, maybe some sexual contents or anything else. You can enjoy your daily life with your smartphone and it’s super easy way to satisfy yourself. Then, you feel you are satisfied with your life that easily. But, this is, it’s a bit difficult to describe though, not a healthy way. It’s like when you are hungry, you are forced to eat snacks and fill your stomach. Although you had something, but you don’t eat the real cooked food.

You feel you want to create your own unique original splendid life but what you are doing is sometimes just watching YouTube or Facebook or endless reel of TikTok or Instagram. It’s super apparent that you cannot be anything by such an “priceless” actions. If you really want to be something and dream it with healthy way, you need to face your own reality and cost something. I mean, you need to risk your life. It’s difficult that I don’t say all free contents are evil, but it can collapse your life.

Therefore, in the movie, the protagonist Tanjiro try to kill himself to awake from the dream. It’s such a symbolic scene. You feel you can lose anything but he does. He risked himself. And he wake up and realize the true harsh reality.

Maybe we are living in a world where we can dream easily in many ways. However, I feel like this film tells us that we need to dream in a decent way.
