A Perfect Timing for Reading Books in My Busy Daily Life

There are so many books to read in my house

Reading books. When you hear this phrase, what would be your reaction? Actually, my reaction was differ from when I was a teenager. I thought reading books or new paper and watching NHK (Japanese kind of BBC) are worst boring thing in my life at that time, and I simply couldn’t believe why adults are enough to be bare with such super boring look things. For instance, each letters in both books and newspapers are shockingly small for me at that time, and any TV program of NHK looked so serious that I unconsciously thought the personalities were AI robots (AI could do better, actually. Then I thought).

Time passes, and people can really change. One of the great meaning of education is sometimes described as this “changing”. Now I really owe my professors who have taught me because thanks to them, I changed so much, and now I can’t imagine the life without reading books (but watching NHK still…) . In my opinion, the first ten books you try to read will the hardest experience in your book life. The way to finish your book seems climbing Mt. Fuji or Everest. But somehow, you bare with reading, reading and reading. At last, when you finish reading 10th or 9th books, you would realize, “I had totally misunderstood about what reading books is!”.

A philosopher once said, “Ultimately, reading books means reading yourself”. And I totally agree with it. By improving your reading skill, your skill to live with clear thoughts or meaning would improve too. You can get words that can describe or explain your confused imagery of your mind. Everyone must be translator in terms of translating your own heart into your mother language. So, yeah, reading books is great. And this is thought to be one of the best my life changing event so far.

Since I was a university student (my major was English Literature), I read a lot from the time (actually not that much though…). However, after becoming a high school teacher, I couldn’t easily find the time to read, and had been frustrated about that. But now I became 29 and I could get the pace of work, the frequency of rearranging my room has much decreased for now. And I could finally find the best timing for reading books in my daily life.

First is after a supper. You feel full stomach and feel dull to wash the dishes, than I put them in the kitchen sink, and put some water in the dish. Then, you can start reading books with satisfaction. Sometimes it lasts for 30 minutes to read, or 2 hours to read.

Second is while talking bath. Soaking half of the body in warm water, and reading with drowsy feelings. My ideal time is for 20 to 30 minutes because you would feel really dizzy at that time.

Third is just before sleeping. With a warm light of your bedside lamp, you can read any books and that would definitely makes you fall asleep within 15 min.

However, sometimes you find yourself so tired in a weekdays and maybe you would have many schedules to do for weekdays. So, for such people like me, the true best timing for reading is Saturday and Sunday. Cancel any schedules and let’s read for all day. You could read 3 books if you really love to read in a day. For somebody, only Saturday and Sunday seems a bit sad and not enough. But, man, the desire for reading would rather decreased if you are free everyday, I think for myself.

Anyway, thank you for reading as usual, and have a great reading life.

English Translated Lyrics for “Pending Machine” by Official Hige Dandism

Official Hige Dandism is one of the most popular pop/rock band in today’s Japan. “Hige” means “a mustache”, and the reason of the quirky band name is said that they want to create ever green songs which can be loved and listened to for really long time like until they are really getting old with mustache. If you’re interested in today’s major J-pop scene, I highly recommend this group (my favorites are “Pretender“, “I LOVE“, “Universe“). Their lyrics and music are so much carefully thought that each songs has a great quality.

The reason why I quoted this band is because their latest album “Editorial” has a really good song which criticize the relationships of us and our smartphone. The title is “Pending Machine”. I greatly agree with this lyrics, and I love this song so much that I’d like to translate it and I’d like to introduce the song to the world(since this song seems to be a kind of B-side song in the album, and there seems no official translation so far).

誰かの憂いを肩代わり出来るほど タフガイじゃない 耐えられない
I’m not a strong guy enough to take over somebody’s anxiety. I can’t bear with it.
耳からも目からも 飛び込む有象無象はもう知らないでいよう 病まないためにも
So let’s shut out them from ears and eyes not to get sick.

Wi-Fi環境がないどこかへ行きたい 熱くなったこの額 冷ますタイムを下さい
I want to go somewhere with no Wi-Fi environment. Please give me a time to cool down my overheated brain.
返答に困窮するメッセージやお誘い 強いられる和気藹々
Messages or invitations that seems really difficult to answer. Forceful harmonious atmosphere.
おまけに暗いニュースだなんて冗談じゃない
And they never get any negative news.

とは言え社会で 多様化した現代で それなりに上手く生きたいのにwhy?
But, in this todays society, diversified modern age, I just want to live somehow well but why?
型落ちの前頭葉で 不具合もなく笑みを 保てないanymore
With my outdated frontal lobe, I can’t keep my smile without a glitch anymore.

はい。分かったからもう黙って 疲れてるから休まして
Okay. I got it so please shut your mouth. I’m tired so please give me a break.
申し訳ないけど待って 迷惑はお互い様だって
I’m sorry but please just wait. We make the same nuisance anyway.
言ってやりたいのになんで? 立場と見栄に躊躇って
I just want to say that but why? My position or ideal myself wouldn’t allow me to do.
外付けの愛想が出しゃばって 葬られた叫び声
My external friendly character meddles, and the voice is buried.

Wi-Fi環境がないどこかへ行きたい プライベートの誇り合い
I just want to go somewhere doesn’t have Wi-Fi. Everyone is showing off their private life
マウンティングの泥試合
The game of meaningless condescending
そんなんで競い合って一体何がしたい?
What the hell do you want to do through such a stupid game
鬼ごっこ ドッジボール 何に例えても常識の範疇を超えてやしない?
Tags, Dodgeball, any games for example, would say it’s beyond the rules

見てらんないから黙って 相手はCPじゃなくて
I can’t see it anymore so please shut up. I’m not talking to Computer.
哺乳類人間様だって 説教できたならわけないね
But the great human beings of mammals. If I could scold like that.
俺にそんな権利なくて 少なくはない前科があって
Maybe I don’t own the right to scold somebody. It’s because I have some criminal records of something stupid.
帰すべき責めは永遠に残って 鳴り止まない叫び声
I’m taking a blame for something for good. The sound of crying would never stop.

誰かの憂いを肩代わりできるほど 健康じゃない
I’m not healthy enough to take over somebody’s depressed feeling.
打ち勝てない ならばそう離れていよう
I can’t overcome. Then, let’s stay away.
流行りもライフハックも もう知らないでいよう 病まないためにも
Let’s ignore every trends or life-hacks not to get mentally ill.

はい。分かったからもう黙って 疲れてるから休まして
Okay. I got it so please shut your mouth. I’m tired so please give me a break.
申し訳ないけど待って 迷惑はお互い様だって
I’m sorry but please just wait. We make the same nuisance anyway.
言わないけど通知切って あわよくば電源を落として
I never tell you but I’ll turn off the notification. Or I would turn off it.
無理やりに暇を作り出して 元気になるまでまたね
Somehow make a space in your life. And see you again when you’ll get fine again.

Globalization is a positive force in today’s world?

I don’t know any other countries’ educational goal of “English”, speaking of Japanese education, it is stated like “to grow a person who can accustomed to this world in globalization”. I feel this statement really weird. It sounds a bit cheap goal to me. In short, I don’t think globalization has such a great effects in todays world.

Firstly, thanks to the invention of Internet, we can easily communicate with foreigners without actual traveling or moving but just on the Internet. Almost everyone can access to tons of information through Google. This happy situation also made the world that force one nation compete not only with domestic nations but foreign nations. Say, if you are Japanese, your rival is no more just Japanese but Foreigners because everyone can work for your favorite country using Internet. Moreover, this create very unforeseeable economic situations around the world. When you got fired, you would not know the reason because the factor of economy became much more complicated than before due to this globalization.

Secondly, globalization seems not to prioritize the unique culture or languages. English as world language is seen as very valuable and important world in today, but actually, each own nations’ culture must have the same value each other. Therefore, this situation can easily kill minority cultures or traditions which seems out of so called global standard.

Lastly, in today’s globalized world, the pandemic can frequently be happened. One of the main reason of the fast spreading of recent C0VID-19 is definitely due to the globalized world. People who has dangerous virus can travel around the world easily and that means the virus spread around the world easily at the same time.

Nobody can deny the strong power or the stream of globalization today, however, I think the world is overrated in today’s world, and I think we should realize the local beauty again today.

Editorial: Everyone forced to dream with “priceless” moments/ What “Demon Slayer: Infinity Train” tries to describe in today’s society

Speaking of “Damon slayer”, which became a huge hit in last year in Japan due to the mega hit of its movie title, the movie has just aired on TV yesterday and people went crazy watching the movie as No.1 grossing movie ever in Japan. Here is an article of what I wrote when I watched the movie for the first time.

Anyhow, it became such a huge hit in Today’s Japanese society, and that means there must be huge attractive, unconscious problem arousal factors in the movie. Masterpiece can describe our hidden unconscious desire or problems, and through watching fiction, we can sometimes see the truth. That is the beauty of watching or reading fictional story. When you see a movie and find something strange, that noticing would be a key for opening the door to a truth hidden in the story.

The curious thing with watching the movie was a kind of main demon character “Genmu”. He can make people dream with his magic, and let people dream really sweet dream, and during they are dreaming, Genmu can eat people. In this movie, he use some kids to cooperate with his strategy and try to eat as many people in the train as possible.

Then, this story reminds me of a thought. I sometime feel I’m forced to dream. In this time, dream means feel satisfied or like that. In today’s society, people can easily satisfied with free contents, like youtube, google, facebook, maybe some sexual contents or anything else. You can enjoy your daily life with your smartphone and it’s super easy way to satisfy yourself. Then, you feel you are satisfied with your life that easily. But, this is, it’s a bit difficult to describe though, not a healthy way. It’s like when you are hungry, you are forced to eat snacks and fill your stomach. Although you had something, but you don’t eat the real cooked food.

You feel you want to create your own unique original splendid life but what you are doing is sometimes just watching YouTube or Facebook or endless reel of TikTok or Instagram. It’s super apparent that you cannot be anything by such an “priceless” actions. If you really want to be something and dream it with healthy way, you need to face your own reality and cost something. I mean, you need to risk your life. It’s difficult that I don’t say all free contents are evil, but it can collapse your life.

Therefore, in the movie, the protagonist Tanjiro try to kill himself to awake from the dream. It’s such a symbolic scene. You feel you can lose anything but he does. He risked himself. And he wake up and realize the true harsh reality.

Maybe we are living in a world where we can dream easily in many ways. However, I feel like this film tells us that we need to dream in a decent way.
